“Fashion is not something that exists in dresses only. Fashion is in the sky, in the street, fashion has to do with ideas, the way we live, what is happening.” Coco Chanel

Future Fashion: Spring Trends 2010

Posted: March 2nd, 2010 | Author: admin | Filed under: Celebrity Fashion, Clothes, Fashion | Tags: , | No Comments »

It may still be cold outside, but the sun has started shining and it is definitely starting to stay brighter for longer! Spring is on it’s way and I can’t wait! With spring on the horizon, it’s time to consider what trends look likely to be big as the weather heats up in the coming months.

Top picks in and on the high street look certain to continue with the micro denim shorts that dominated last summer, although this year we might be seeing micro shorts and mini skirts paired with over the knee and knee high socks, as this was a trend spotted from recent spring collections. Other trends still hanging around from last year that look certain to make it in this summer are light boyfriend blazers, ripped denim, jumpsuits, playsuits and bold patterned/printed skirts and trousers.

But what will you be wearing them with you ask? Well our friend the headband that trended in the last two spring/summers will be getting another look in, but this seasons headbands looks set to be all about bows. Think Luella, Marc by Marc Jacobs and Temperley style oversize quirky or vintage bows for inspiration. There’s even a potential micro-trend predicted for bunny ear style headbands getting a look in.

The two trends I’m most excited about is the ‘Future Warrior’ and ‘Sci Fi’ looks jutting out of the spring 2010 runways and into our wardrobe. So we’re not talking Lady Gaga exactly but there’s a definite nod toward the style icons futuristic style.  the ‘Future Warrior’ look incorporates tribal mixed with military trends (face paint optional) while the look  below is our take on the impending Futurism style kicking off this year. While the Future Warrior look (think Rihanna) looks like you can pull the look off for day wear, the Futurism / Sci Fi look seems easier to get away with in evening wear for glam nights out.

Mark Fast Strikes Again!

Posted: March 1st, 2010 | Author: admin | Filed under: Fashion, Fashion Shows, Plus Size Fashion Models | Tags: , , , , | No Comments »

London Fashion Week is always an eventful occasion and the latest London fashion event was certainly no different.  Some may have branded it as controversial whilst others may have said it was simply a breath of fresh of air.  However, whichever way you look at it London Fashion Week has certainly left a lasting impression.

Last week saw Mark Fast and his knitwear range come under scrutiny again as a direct result of his choice to use plus size models for the second consecutive time at London Fashion Week.  Back in September 2009 Mark Fast caused a huge stir by including three plus size models within the show case of his Spring Summer 2010 range.  This was seen as an extremely controversial move by some and sparked a nationwide debate.  Whilst some supported the move by Mark Fast others were absolutely appalled by this decision, in fact this feeling of distain was felt widely amongst those within Mark Fast’s team as 2 members, including the creative director, quit just days before the Spring/Summer show.  Furthermore, there was much speculation at the time as to whether Mark Fast had simply egotistical motives when he made the decision to include plus size models within his show as it resulted in the brand receiving a great deal of publicity.

Despite his motives Mark Fast has remained defiant as for his show last week at London Fashion Week he again used plus size models.  The Canadian designer used size 14 or 16 models last week and all plus size models looked healthy rather than the gaunt look we are all so used to at such shows.  Mark Fat said that the reason he decided to use more curvaceous models is that he thinks it is important that women of all shapes and sizes can wear his designs and they are not in fact exclusive to extremely slight women.

However, it is important to point out that the average British woman is in fact a size 14-16 so the use of models of this size should not be considered as something unusual.  These fashion models represent the average women and show that plus size fashion does not have to be different, that in fact the same fashion designs can be worn by all women.

Even Agyness Deyn ain’t perfect!

It’s refreshing to see when models fall down on a catwalk – it’s kinda like natures way of telling normal women that no one is perfect! Also highlights that if even a paid model can’t walk down the runway in sky high platforms, I shouldn’t feel guilty about wearing ballet flats out on a night dancing so I don’t break my ankles or go home with sore feet!

Here’s lovely Aggy Deyn taking a fall on the runway, and taking it all gracefully, with humour, and in her stride. Great recovery Aggy – if only I was this graceful when tripping over in my heels! Love her!

Update your Look with Accessories!

Posted: February 15th, 2010 | Author: admin | Filed under: Accessories, Fashion, Hosiery | Tags: , , | No Comments »

Everyone reaches a stage when they tire of their wardrobe and look to update and renew their look.  However, all too often it seems that this is a difficult thing to do as it requires a lot of financial resources.  Although I think it is possible to freshen and update your look without having to invest a great deal through the use of accessories.

By accessorising an outfit you can add a new dimension to it and totally transform it from what it is.  What is more accessories allow you to experiment and mix and match to find a look that suits you.  Furthermore it allows you to create several different looks using only one outfit.

Given the winter chill that we are all experiencing in the UK at the minute perhaps the ideal accessories to experiment with are hats, scarves and tights.  No matter what anyone says I am a firm believer that you can not only be practical but fashionable all at the same.  Furthermore if the range of tights on offer at MyTights is anything to go combining the two elements has never been easier.  To be honest I don’t think I knew it was possible to have so many styles of tights or stockings but the selection on offer there is great and means that no matter what your hosiery requirements are you are sure to find what you are looking for.

So to add a splash of colour to your life this winter why not opt for a pair of purple or blue tights?  Or if you are feeling slightly more adventurous why not try a pair of funky, patterned tights?  Either way I think you will be surprised how much an outfit can be transformed just through the use of hosiery.  It can lift an outfit from dull and mundane to something fresh and exciting.
