Spend Your Money on Childrens Designer Clothes?

I suppose if you have the money, you are free to choose to spend it on designer labels and expensive brands for your children. However, as someone who has little interest in designer fashion for myself, I see absolutely no reason to buy expensive clothes for children.

One argument against this is practical and economic. As any parent knows, children grow rapidly, and there seems little point in buying expensive clothes that will soon be too small. Perhaps if there is a younger sibling of the same sex, the clothes could be passed down to them, thus gaining more use and better value. That said, there are so many shops selling children’s clothes at excellent value, and bundles of clothing can be purchased on Ebay cheaply.

Another argument against expensive clothing is psychological. Children today appear to be ‘brand-aware’ at a much younger age, and buying them labels rather than cheaper clothing encourages them to view such labels as desirable. Sadly, the pressure to conform is considerable as a child enters their teens, and most want to fit in rather than stand out and develop their own style. Therefore I would consider that if they insist on wearing designer labels, they should purchase them from Christmas and birthday money, and contribute to the cost from part-time work as soon as they are able.

It’s a Question of Age

When it comes to children’s clothing, budget is everything. The cost of living is very high in the UK and there is only so much the average person can realistically afford to spend on clothes for their kids. It is a matter of prioritisation and providing nutritious food and paying the bills comes ahead of designer clothes.

It depends heavily on their age as to what clothing they’ll get. There is little point in spending £75 on a pair of designer jeans for a 6 year old boy who plays in the mud and regularly gets holes in the knees! A pair of Tesco jeans for £16 would more than suffice and the child would be unlikely to care less.

A parent would probably be more understanding if their teenager wanted something nice as image is very important when you are at school, especially now-a-days. It is still likely that they would be bought Tesco clothing but a few special designer items would also be more likely to find their way into the older teenager’s wardrobe.

Mankind Jeans

Whilst Diesel is probably the more popular of the two its a hard choice between them. I find that diesel jeans are slightly easier to come by so if your looking for something that you can run down to the local shopping mall you are probably more likely to find diesel jeans.
However this can also mean that more people will have these jeans. Personally i hate it when im out and about and someone has the same itme of clothing as me. It makes me feel like a clone. So if you are looking for something slightly more original then Mankind is probably the way forward.
Price wise there isnt a lot in it they are also high quality and also recommended by some famous faces. Mankind can sometimes be slightly more dressy which, if thats your preference probably the most recommended for you.
To sum up i would have to side with Mankind for there designs and bringing something fresh to my group of friends.

Lovely Jeans

Many celebreties have been spotted wearing Mankind jeans. These include Rachael Bilson (stylish OC star), Jennifer Lopez and Jessica Biel. They are priced from around £180 to £200 for each pair and come in a range of uber fashionable styles although I am unable to find a highwaisted pair anywhere. The cut is very flattering with the low hipster style waist and is made of a heavy quality denim. The only issue I find with these is they are all super long as they are designed for supermodels. They are very lovely however very pricey and probably would not look good on anyone over a size 14 due to the waist on them. They are not very widely available in the UK. Harrods and Selfridges stock them but if you don’t live near London or Manchester then you will have trouble, unless a local boutique has managed to get them. They are also available online but I would recommend trying them on before buying as the denim does not have much give.

Diesel Jeans have become quite mainstream now. Although celebrities can still be seen in these, more people have them in their wardrobe than Mankind Jeans. They are more of a long standing premium brand. Celebrities such as Rhianna, Petra Nemcova (Czech Supermodel) and Britney Spears have been spotted wearing them and they range from £100 to £150. Again they come a huge range of styles although they do more of the boy fit for women than other brands. I have never found these the most flattering jeans though. I always find they are either too big or too tight as they seem to be designed for a strange body shape. The quality of the denim seems very good as you would expect and the lengths seem more realistic. The short length is actually short. They are widely available from most department stores and online.

Overall I would prefer to buy the Mankind jeans as they have a great fit, however due to price they would be a special treat.

Diesel v Mankind

The key issue, for me, when distiguishing between jeans is cost, design and durability.

Diesel is by far the cheapest make of the two, but is it worth spending more and going for Mankind? The designs for Mankind tend to be slightly more over the top when it comes to colouring, and slightly more risky; and I think it pays off.

When it comes to which one lasts the longest, well, I’d have to say that Mankind offers perhaps a longer lasting impression. I do have a pair of both, both of which are relatively new, but my Diesel pair seems to be showing more signs of wear; after similar periods of usage as the Mankind pair. Especially at the bottom where it rubs on the floor.

Perhaps this shows that with Mankind you get more bang with your buck and the £150+ it’s going to cost you for a pair (I got mine from TK Maxx for £40; boast, boast) maybe they are the better option.
